“Fausel Family Lace” – Historic Fausel House
The El Dorado Arts Council expressed interest in The Quilt Trail Project and because they were tenants in the house they turned to Deanna Fausel for a design consultation. Working with artist Jane Harris, the delicate blue and white design came to life from an old, cherished, delicate crocheted piece made by Oveta Fausel Lawrence born in 1915, the youngest of Emil and Mary Fausel’s five children. The house is Placerville’s oldest residential building and is listed on the California Register of Historic Places. The Fausel family still lives in the county and owns the oldest hardware store west of the Mississippi, Placerville Hardware. NOTE: Please do not disturb tenants at the Fausel House. Any questions you might have about the quilt or the house should be directed to www.EDC-FarmTrails.Org
