6701 Perry Creek Road
Fair Play, CA 95684
Proprietors: Lucinda and Daryl Sullivan
Tucked into the back roads of the Fair Play wine country and next door to Amador’s Shenandoah Valley, this Bed and Breakfast Inn is home to seekers of the grape who may want a break from the “Nevada brown”, as Daryl calls it. “We get 65% of our guests from Nevada,” he said. “It’s green here, brown there, and we are open year round.” Bay Area guests are not far behind.
Lucinda’s was built 11 years ago to be a bed and breakfast inn. The couple had lived in Sacramento and Elk Grove and drove through the area to attend car rallies. After they decided to settle in Fair Play, they designed and built the 3 structures that make up the inn themselves The main house contains 4 guest suites and there is one more in the separate cottage.
The inn emphasizes fire resistant everything, from the cement fiber exterior, sprinklers that were not required at the time of construction, and many other features they themselves installed with conservationist foresight. They have set new standards of excellence for El Dorado/Amador County lodging.
The individual suites throughout are energy efficient, with refrigerator, microwave, snack bars, fireplaces, sitting area, bedroom with king size bed, free high speed WIFI and satellite HD TV. Each suite includes a deck or porch for outdoor seating. A patio in the courtyard accommodates outdoor gatherings. Laminate flooring adds to the spacious feel as you walk through the theme décor in each suite. The pine flooring in the dining room and the cottage is of special note, Lucinda relates, “It comes from all the pines we cut to build the inn.” A lounge area as well as a spacious yet cozy library is included in the main building. A full breakfast buffet is served each morning, included in the room rate, or you can dine on the rear deck or your private deck. You can order a picnic to take on your wine country excursion.
The Inn’s occupies only a quarter of the property’s 11-acres –surrounded by its natural wooded state, there are paths for strolling, a creek and a quiet picnic area. Turkeys, deer, fox and birds pass by on a regular basis.
The couple is proud of their 50 years together. The walls feature a few quilts with family ties, one of them boasts 90 years. The Sullivans live in a separate apartment of their own in the main building. “We are one of the few bed and breakfast inns in this area now,” Lucinda said. “We are busy all year, and are the newest member of the BedandBreakfast.com Diamond Collection. “
To ensure quality and maintain membership in the Diamond Collection, B&Bs must pass a comprehensive professional inspection measuring every aspect of the property’s accommodations. They also must consistently maintain top guest ratings and reviews on BedandBreakfast.com and offer professional reservation service, photos, and on-line access. Matt Laessig, general manager of BedandBreakfast.com said that Lucinda’s Country Inn is a perfect addition to this group of premier inns.” Visit lucindascountryinn.com or call 530-409-4169.
