“Il Tavolo Della Vita” – Via Romano Vineyards

Via Romano Vineyards | El Dorado County Farm Trails

Leanne and Jon created an Old Italian Block quilt pattern to go with their Italian wines. The name means, “the table of life.” “We believe the family table is the heart of our community. The family table would not be complete without the abundance from nature and our local farmers. Our quilt recognizes the hard work and dedication it takes to build this table, and create a lasting community. The background “fabrics” represent products of our region: grapes, olives, apples, and carrots.” The connecting “fabric” is based on the honeycomb that houses the bees that pollinate all of their fruits and vegetables. They worked with an iron artist who created 3-dimensional bees to attach to the honeycomb. Instead of painting, it is printed on metal.

When Jon and Leanne honeymooned in Northern Italy they connected to the land and grape growers in Tuscany and Piedmonte. Leanne’s great grandfather, Tomaso Romano, emigrated from Naples in 1905 and brought his winemaking skills with him. “Via” [by way of] that connection, Jon and Leanne named their small craft Italian-styled winery Via Romano Vineyards. Jon’s beer-making skills transitioned to fermentation and they planted their first Nebbiolo grapes on family land in El Dorado. Nebbiolo was brought to the new world in the 1860s. There are only about 150 acres of this grape in California. They are working with several wine grape growers in the county to plant a few rare Italian varietals for future wines.
